First Year Students (Twins) From UDS Receives Financial Assistance From Rains Through The Dean Of Students’ Office

The office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs of the University for Development Studies in partnership with RAINS an NGO in the Northern region, has donated two cheques worth GHC 1,500.00 each to two first year students of University as support for their feeding and accommodation.

The parents of the two students, Miss. Helena Owusua Appiah and Miss. Helen Owusua Appiah who are pursuing BSc Medical Imaging Technology and BSc Renewable Natural Resource respectfully, were only able to afford to pay their school fees. However, the two ladies stood the risk of missing out on their education because they had no money to pay for accommodation and to cater for their feeding.

When news about the plight of the two students reached the office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the office appealed to RAINS for support for them.

At a short ceremony to present the donation, the Vice Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Umar Haruna disclosed that, the office of the Dean of Students Affairs has a help desk that is responsible for seeking financial assistance for needy students. The help desk, according to Dr. Umar Haruna, was also set up to help address challenges faced by students, especially in the areas of academics, school fees, accommodation among others.

The leader of the RAINS delegation, Madam Ragadahu Abdul Wahab who made the presentation on behalf of RAINS, encouraged the young ladies to study hard. She said, RAINS takes a keen interest in education, especially when it involves women.

The Vice President of the UDS Alumni Association, Dr. Osman Damba thanked the NGO for the assistance offered to the twins. While urging the beneficiaries to study hard and make good grades in their respective programs, he pledged that, the Alumni will put in their best to help students with similar challenges to access university education.

The Dean of Students’ Affair, Dr. Musah Alhassan on behalf of the university expressed gratitude to the team from RAINS and called for more partnerships in different areas as well. He challenged the beneficiaries to put in their best in order to open more opportunities for them.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to both the Dean’s office and to RAINS for their timely intervention. The two promised to study hard in order to get more scholarship opportunities. According to the beneficiaries, UDS was the best and ultimate choice considering the nature of its programs and the Third Trimester Practical Program (TTFPP).
