Senior Staff Association of UDS Calls Off Strike Amid Fruitful Dialogue

The Senior Staff Association, Universities of Ghana of the University for Development Studies (SSAUG-UDS) has officially called off its strike, which was initiated following an alleged threat on one of their members. This decision was announced by the Chairman of the SSAUG-UDS branch after a series of successful negotiations between key stakeholders.

In a meeting held to address the situation, the Vice Chancellor of UDS, Professor Seidu Al-hassan, urged all parties to embrace dialogue and mutual respect in resolving grievances. He emphasized that open communication is the most effective way to address concerns, encouraging stakeholders to work collaboratively for the betterment of the University Community.

Additionally, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), reminded the UDS staff of the importance of unity and teamwork. He stressed that working together harmoniously is essential for the institution’s continued success.

The Chairman of SSAUG-UDS, while addressing members, confirmed that the strike had been called off due to the constructive discussions between the Director General of GTEC. Prof. Ahmed Jinapor, the UDS Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, and the Executives of the Association. He made it clear that the decision to end the strike was reached without any coercion or intimidation.

Furthermore, he cautioned SSAUG-UDS members against spreading false information, particularly regarding unfounded claims that management intended to deny salaries to striking staff. He reaffirmed that no such decision had been made by the university's management, urging members to rely on verified information.

The resolution of the strike brings a sense of relief to the university community, and stakeholders are optimistic that continued dialogue will help prevent future disruptions.
