UDS 25th Congregation Ceremony Brings Families Together And Boosts Local Vendors' Sales

The University for Development Studies (UDS) marked its 25th Congregation Ceremony with the usual pomp and pageantry, a joyous milestone for graduates and a proud occasion for their  served as a unique platform for family reunions, bustling business opportunities for vendors, and late-night celebrations.

As families from various parts of Ghana gathered to witness the graduation of their loved ones, the event became a spontaneous reunion. Siblings, parents, extended family, and old friends reunited, catching up on each other’s lives while reminiscing about memories and strengthening family bonds. Many families, some who had not seen each other for years, took this opportunity to celebrate together, turning the UDS campus grounds into scenes of heartfelt embraces, laughter, and photo sessions that captured memories for years to come.

A vibrant market sprang up around the congregation venue, with local vendors seizing the opportunity to cater to the large crowd. Food vendors were busy all day, offering a variety of local delicacies from fried yam and rice dishes to grilled kebabs. Fruit vendors sold freshly cut pineapples, watermelons, and oranges, giving guests an energy boost in the warm weather. Meanwhile, soft drink stalls dotted the venue, providing cold refreshments to help families stay hydrated and cool in the sun.

The vendors reported brisk sales, with some noting that they had sold out of stock even before the ceremonies were over. "This is one of the biggest events of the year for us," said a kebab seller who attends every congregation ceremony. "I look forward to it because it means good business, and the students and families are always in such high spirits."

As the official events wrapped up, the atmosphere shifted to a festive one, with families and friends gathering to host after-parties for graduates. The celebrations extended into the night, with music, dancing, and revelry continuing across the city. These gatherings, held in homes or rented venues, became jubilant affairs where families and friends could fully celebrate the accomplishments of their graduates.

The 25th Congregation Ceremony was more than a rite of passage for UDS graduates. It was a heartwarming occasion that reinforced family ties, supported local businesses, and allowed the community to join in the celebrations. The festivities, as always, concluded in style, with joyous parties deep into the night, leaving lasting memories for everyone involved.
