The tour was to afford the Council Chairman and his team the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the facilities available on all the Campuses of the University.

The drive-through tour began from the Central Administration Block of the University at Dungu and proceeded to the newly constructed underground reservoir tank, then through the Principal’s Bungalows, the UDS Basic School, the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, the Medical School Blocks, and the School of Allied Health Block. The team also visited and inspected the UDS Gbanyamli Lands. The Director of Works and Physical Development (WPD), Ing. He indicated that the site has been earmarked to be developed into what will be termed “the UDS North Campus”. Ing Abiko indicated that apart from the fence wall that had been constructed to protect the land from encroachers, all other plans for the development of the site are still on paper.

From the Gbanyamli site, team then proceeded to the City Campus of the University where it inspected the existing structures, the ongoing construction project of a multipurpose building which has been earmarked to contain lecture halls, offices for teaching and administrative staff, among a host of other facilities. The team also briefly met with the Management staff of the Campus. They discussed among other things, the issues of sanitation, health, security, ongoing projects, as well as academic and staff welfare issues.

The tour bus then continued on a 10 kilometers journey to the Nyankpala Campus where it first inspected the ongoing construction of WACWISA buildings and solar-powered irrigation technology projects. Here, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Gabriel Ayum Teye and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix K. Abagale, took turns to provide the necessary information as the bus took the team round the facilities and the Campus environment.

The team passed through the meat unit, the main university library, the experimental/commercial fishponds, the Spanish Lab and two (2) abandoned GETFund construction projects meant for lecture halls and offices. From there, the team also visited the water pumping plant where water is collected, treated and distributed to the various parts of the Nyankpala Campus.

The Chairman and his team drove through the University Basic School and JHS, the SSNIT Flat (hostel), and the popular “Noah’s Ark” building which is one of the oldest buildings on the campus. The construction of the Noah’s Ark building was jointly sponsored by the Arab Development Bank and the GETFund. The tour continued to the site earmarked for the construction of the UDS Teaching Hospital. Other places visited included the School of Engineering Block, and the main Auditorium where most of events on the campus are held.
