The University for Development Studies (UDS) on Thursday, March 17, 2022 inaugurated a five (5) member Audit Committee team to ensure prudent financial management in the university.  The Committee was sworn-in at a brief ceremony in the Council Chamber of the Central Administration Block of the University. The brief ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Director of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Mr. Alhassan Fuseini and attended by some key members of the University Management staff.

Members of the Committee include Dr. Felix Kwame Aveh and Mr. Abdulai Mohammed both from the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) and Mrs. Clara Mama Asigri, who represents the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG). The rest are Rev. Dr. Grace Sintim Adasi and Dr. Sanatu Alidu Mustapha both representing the University Council. Mr. Rashid Yakubu, an Assistant Registrar has been appointed as the secretary to the committee.

The Committee’s term of office is for a two-year period, renewable for another two-year term.

On behalf of the Director General of Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Mr. Alhassan Fuseini after administering the oath of office and secrecy to the members, called on them to be circumspect in their line of duty. He admonished the members on the need for confidentiality and the need to ensure that information they come across in the course of their work is handled professionally.  He said the Audit Committee is a problem-solving body, adding that members should therefore ensure they champion integrity, secrecy, objectivity, transparency and accountability by focusing on both financial and operational issues of the University.  He congratulated them on their appointment and wished them well.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye welcomed the members of the Audit Committee and thanked them for accepting the arduous role. He appealed to them to discharge their duties well, whiles assuring them of management’s utmost support and cooperation. Prof. Teye also called on the Committee to be firm, sincere and honest in their line of work.

As a statutory requirement, the Committee elected Dr. Felix Kwame Aveh as the Chairman of the UDS Audit Committee. In his acceptance remarks, he thanked his colleagues for the trust reposed in him and was optimistic that his team would provide valuable insight, and guidance and provide the needed support for the development of the University. He also called on the management of the University to give his team the needed support.

Also present at the ceremony were the Registrar - Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, the Director of Finance - Dr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, the Director of Internal Audit- Mr. John A. Azure and representatives from the University Relations Office.
