From Monday January 2 to January 6 2023, instead of the voices of the regular radio presenters, listeners of radio Tamale woke up to the sound of the voices of Professors, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, Senior lecturers, lecturers and other staff of the University for Development Studies, UDS, on the airwaves.
The University collaborated with Radio Tamale 91.7FM, one of the most popular radio stations in Northern Ghana, to use their airwaves to, not just sensitize the public about the Schools, Faculties, Departments, Centers, Programmes and Courses at the University, but to also educate the public on general issues of development, health, education, among others.
The weeklong collaboration saw staff of UDS takeover the production and presentation of the radio station’s peak time shows such as the morning, mid-morning and late afternoon shows to entertain, inform and educate the public.
Throughout the period, the programmes, which were also streamed live on Radio Tamale’s Social Media handles generated a lot interest as tens of people called in to contribute to the programmes through suggestions and asking questions regarding programmes and courses at UDS. Dozens of those who monitored the programmes through social media also made their contributions through comments and “likes”.
The University Relations Office has indicated that it intends to make such programmes a regular feature on the University’s Calendar in order to connect with the University’s publics and help demystify University education and to the ordinary Ghanaian.
