DR. ADINAN B. SHAFIWU SENIOR LECTURER DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD ECONOMICS FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND CONSUMER SCIENCES NYANKPALA Campus
Background

Dr. Adinan B. Shafiwu is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Agriculture and Food Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Sciences (FoAFCS), University for Development Studies (UDS). He is a PhD holder in Agricultural Economics and a Chartered Health Economics by profession. Adinan obtains his BA IDS (Economics and Entrepreneurship Development), MPhil and PhD Agricultural Economics all from UDS. He also holds a single subject diploma in Business Management and Administration from the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), England. My research interests are founded on the continuum of sustainable agricultural transition, improved livelihoods in rural areas, and inclusive economic development in Sub Saharan Africa. My research interests as an agricultural economist and development researcher are on how agricultural technologies, market systems, climate adaptation strategies, and institutional interventions affect productivity, welfare and food security of smallholder farming households. My research is interdisciplinary and policy-oriented with the goal of providing evidence to support development planning, agricultural policy and poverty reduction in Ghana and elsewhere. My academic and professional experiences have led me to develop a strong interest in the economics of agricultural technology adoption, agribusiness management, climate change adaptation and food security analysis. I have used farm level household survey, experimental and quasi-experimental methods and sophisticated micro-econometric techniques to study the responses of farmers to technological innovations and market opportunities over the years. With over Thirty (30) published articles in reputable journal of higher impact, my journal publications in journals like Journal of Agriculture and Food Research, Technology in Society, and Review of Agricultural and Applied Economics investigate the impact of improved seeds, climate-smart agriculture and digital extension systems on technical efficiency, productivity and household welfare. I have worked on projects funded by J-PAL, Oxfam, Plan International, International Food Policy Research Institute, and International Water Management Institute. These engagements have enhanced my ability in impact evaluation, development methodologies and project assessment, and analysis of evidence-based policies. With the J-PAL Summer School on Development Methodologies in Morocco, my knowledge of sound impact assessment and randomized development interventions is unmatched.
