DR. MUSTAPHA MOHAMMED Lecturer DEPARTMENT OF CROP SCIENCE FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND CONSUMER SCIENCES NYANKPALA Campus
Background

Mustapha Mohammed (PhD) is a Lecturer in the Department of Crop Science. Since joining the University for Development Studies in 2021, he has so far provided instructions in Arable Crop Production, Plantation and Industrial Crop Production, Elementary Irrigation, Drainage, & Flood Control at the undergraduate level and Soil Microbiology at the postgraduate level. His current research interest and contributions focus on symbiotic plant-microbe interactions within the broad field of agriculture through collaborative and interdisciplinary research, teaching, and student supervision. His research entails the quantification of legume N2 fixation and its influence on plant physiological parameters such as leaf photosynthesis and gas exchange. His research further explores the diversity, distribution, and phylogenetic relationships of native rhizobial symbionts of cultivated and wild legumes across diverse African environments using PCR-based techniques such as multilocus sequence analysis of protein-coding/housekeeping and accessory genes. Over the years, Dr. Mohammed has disseminated the findings of his research through journal publications and participation in several local and international conferences and workshops. He has collaborated with researchers from different academic and research institutions within and outside Ghana and is currently a member of the UDS-JIRCAS research team. The overall objective of his works is to contribute to student capacity building and research on green and sustainable approaches to increase crop productivity by bioprospecting for indigenous rhizobial strains in African soils for use as inoculants.
