UDS Signs MoU with Vitara Agritech to Advance Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Innovation

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vitara Agritech Limited to promote collaboration in sustainable agriculture, digital innovation, climate resilience, agroforestry and responsible carbon market development.

The MoU was signed on Friday, 2 October 2026, at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, signed on behalf of the University. The Chief Executive Officer of Vitara Agritech Limited, Mr. Johncarl Dunyo, signed on behalf of the company.

The collaboration will be implemented through the West African Centre for Shea Innovation and Research (WACSIR). The agreement provides a framework for joint research and innovation in shea, agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, carbon sequestration, and restoration of agricultural landscapes.

Under the partnership, UDS and Vitara will explore opportunities to establish nurseries and demonstration sites, train farmers and other stakeholders, support digital agriculture and develop joint research and grant proposals. The agreement also provides for staff and student participation in research, internships, fieldwork and professional development activities. The parties will also explore opportunities for farmers and communities to participate in credible carbon market and ecosystem service initiatives, subject to agreed safeguards.

The Vice-Chancellor was supported at the ceremony by the Director of WACSIR, Prof. Abubakari Alhassan while the CEO of VITARA was accompanied by the Finance Associate, Ms Gloria Bawombayi. The Directorate of International Relations and Advancement (DIRA) facilitated the signing event.

The partnership supports the University’s efforts to connect research, innovation and community engagement with agricultural productivity, environmental sustainability and rural development.
