Diploma in Family and Consumer Science

Program objectives
The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills geared towards self-reliance.
  2. Produce graduates capable of supporting individuals and families to live up to the changing needs and trends of family life in the society. 
  3. Assist students to develop creative and innovative approaches to help families identify and proffer solutions to problems.
  4. Empower the youth with employable skills to satisfy current labour demands.
  5. Prepare students for further studies at the degree (BSc) level.  

Prospects for graduates
Graduates of this program may be employed in the following areas:

  1. Educators (public and private institutions) at the basic levels
  2. Technical experts (in food, garment and textile industries)
  3. Entrepreneurs (in hospitality and cottage industries)
  4. Research assistant officers in research units (establishments/institutions)
  5. Human resource developers in early childhood development and rehabilitation centres.Institutions such as social welfare and community development, armed forces, prisons, police and fire services as well as civil society organisations offer prospects for employment.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  5. Expose students to the field of academia through research and training and prepare them for postgraduate studies and academic work.
